Robusta in Specialty Coffee: nunc. launches new roast Nero Peaks

Robusta im Specialty Coffee: nunc. launcht neuen Roast Nero Peaks

nunc. has made it its mission to make the full spectrum of coffee accessible to everyone — always at the highest quality. Now the CoffeeTech start-up is expanding its portfolio with a 100% Robusta that evokes the feeling of classic Italian espresso, partly in response to direct wishes from its community.

A dark roast with a particular warmth, like the first sip of espresso at a small Italian coffee bar. Notes of chocolate, hazelnut and cocoa butter. Dense crema, full body, and almost no acidity. Nero Peaks by nunc. doesn't just make you dream of holidays but it's made for everyone who prefers a traditional coffee flavor over the lighter, often fruity and playful roasts that dominate the specialty market right now.

Alongside Arabica, Robusta is the second major variety in the coffee market. The name says it all: Robusta plants are generally more resilient against environmental factors like temperature fluctuations and sun exposure. But the bean long had a poor reputation among coffee connoisseurs. Historically, it was often roasted dark and used in low-cost blends or instant coffee. That quality is determined not by the variety alone, but above all by how the bean is treated on its journey from farm to cup, is something nunc. is now making clear:

Nero Peaks is a 100% semi-washed Robusta from the Bao Loc Highlands in Vietnam – one of the most significant Robusta-growing regions in the world. The beans are grown by Mr. Toi, a farmer who has turned his craft into a calling. Over decades, he has refined his growing methods, developed and mastered cutting-edge processing techniques, and built an internationally recognised name for high-quality Robusta. The beans are sourced through specialty importer Cumpa. The result is a coffee that brings together traditional espresso enjoyment and Specialty Coffee: bold, clean, and uncompromising in origin and quality.

That Nero Peaks is joining the nunc. portfolio is no coincidence. It has been nunc.'s credo since its founding to put the real wishes and needs of its community at the heart of every product decision. It's this customer-centric approach that drives the young company's thinking around innovation and growth. The data backs it up, too: even as more experimental roasts continue to trend, familiar, characterful coffee profiles dominate the daily ritual of nunc. customers. In May 2026, for instance, the bold Roaring Volcano led the charts, accompanied by the milder but still creamy and full-bodied Glowing Beach, a true crowd favorite.

But the data is only part of the picture. "It's not just our numbers that tell us about the flavor preferences of our customers: direct conversations, whether at roadshows, in one-on-one exchanges, or online, all pointed in the same direction: a lot of people want a bolder, more classic roast," says Markus Unger, Co-Founder of nunc. "Nero Peaks is our answer to that. With the same care in sourcing and roasting that every bean in our portfolio receives."

nunc. sees itself as a company that thinks about coffee holistically. Not just the machine or the bean, but as a gateway to a rich and colorful world of taste. The vision: that everyone finds their own individual enjoyment within it, without being defeated by the preparation process. Simply enjoying a ritual, simply enjoying good taste.
